I’ve been asked many times why I feel so strongly in my support of KLRU. It’s simple. I believe in the value and inspiration of public television.
My dad introduced me to the value of PBS around age 10. He sat me down beside him to watch the Watergate Hearings. In an age before CNN and 24 hour cable news, PBS was the only place to find live coverage of the hearings, with a rebroadcast in the evening. While commercial networks decided to return to normal programming and rotate coverage of the hearings after a week, PBS was committed to allowing the nation to be a part of this historic event in it entirety.
As my dad told me as we started to watch the hearings, “This is history. One day you will tell your children about it.” He was right. And he was right to rely on PBS. Even as a kid in Yoakam Texas, I recognized that. Simply put, I was hooked on PBS.

I believe that EVERY child should have the same opportunity that I did. The opportunity to see the world from an honest perspective. Without PBS, I likely would have not have had the chance to form my view of the world other than the one I grew up in. What a blessing it has been to be presented a multitude of perspectives and viewpoints by PBS.
